NETHERLAND, Betty L., 71, of Gum Spring, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 2, 2010. Betty was born March 11, 1939 to the late Rev. Robert T. Lyon Sr. and Martha Richards Lyon. After graduating from Bristol, Tenn. High School in 1958, she married the love of her life, John D. Netherland. Betty served numerous years as a bookkeeper before retiring and pursuing her lifelong passion of traveling the world. Betty served as chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 215 in Goochland, volunteering her time and efforts to assist our Nation’s veterans. She was a devoted Christian and was a member of Ragland Memorial Baptist Church. Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her memories will be cherished by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Mike Netherland and wife, Laurie, of Copenhagen, Denmark, Allen Netherland and wife, Bonnie, of Midlothian, and Jerry Netherland and wife, Marina, of Chester; her sisters, Shirley Netherland and husband, Robert Glenn Netherland Jr., and Helen Barker of Paris, Tenn.; her brother, Ches Lyon and wife, Elsee, of Lake City, S.C., and Lewis Lyon and wife, Bettie, of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Michael, Taylor and Meagan; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2010, at Ragland Memorial Baptist Church, 2838 Sandy Hook Rd., Sandy Hook, Va. 23153. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the church. Interment will follow in church cemetery. The Rev. Ed Rodriquez will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Post 215, P.O. Box 1062, Goochland, Va. 23063. Arrangements by Lacy Funeral Home, Mineral, Va.     Betty was my aunt, never knew her well but she was family and in my soul loved her as family. she was a good women and god has a special place for her. May all take comfert,knowing that she is looking down with love to all those who loved her. take care, bob lyon.
