Obituary message

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, Catherine G. Wyatt, 69, passed away at her home in Bumpass, Virginia and went home to be with Jesus.

Cathy was born on June 18, 1949 to Pervy W. Griffin and Blanche Gartman Griffin. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Sanders J. Wyatt Jr.; daughters Tracey and Carrie Wyatt; brothers Bob and Bill Griffin; sister Jeanne Griffin; four nephews; and five nieces.

Cathy was kind, generous, and loved by family and friends. Though she had many hobbies and was gifted in many ways, she approached her interests in a humble and quiet manner. Cathy played piano and also taught piano lessons. She taught herself how to play many other instruments, including the accordion, mandolin, several types of dulcimers and the guitar. Cathy was very involved in her churches over the years and incorporated her love of music by playing piano and hand bells for church, and for many years singing in her church choir. She rode horses and raised chickens and cows. She loved animals and had many beloved cats and dogs over the course of her life; to Cathy, they were a part of her family. Cathy particularly loved working with her dogs in the sport of agility and earned hundreds of ribbons while competing in trials. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting, often creating her own patterns. Cathy also enjoyed gardening, both growing her own fruits and vegetables and creating many beautiful flowerbeds. She loved nature and much preferred to be outdoors rather than inside watching TV. Cathy loved to travel around the country with her husband and dogs in their RV and also traveled several times to Israel, one of the highlights of which was being baptized in the Jordan River.

More than being remembered for any of the above accomplishments and interests, Cathy wanted to be remembered as a child of God. One of her desires was that her passing be a celebration of where she was going – Heaven. She made many friends along the journey that was her life and she will be remembered fondly by those friends and family who loved her.

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12 (NIV)

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 24 at Lacy Funeral Home and from 11 to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, October 25 at Grove Avenue Baptist Church.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 25 at the church. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at Millview Cemetery, 278 Turners Mill Road, Bumpass, VA 23024, with a short reception at the same location in the family home. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, Cathy requested that donations be made to Words of Victory Ministries at either www.wordsofvictory.com or Words of Victory Ministries c/o Grove Avenue Baptist Church 8701 Ridge Rd Richmond VA 23229.
