Memory

Donald Lee Wise, Jr.

October 19, 1963-February 6, 2022

Donald Lee Wise, Jr., 58, of Beaverdam, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2022 in Sumter, South Carolina.

Don was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 19, 1963 to Donald Lee Wise, Sr. and Gretchen Ann Wise.  He was a 1981 graduate from Coloma High School, Coloma, Michigan. He met the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Wright, in October 1987. On February 14, 1991 he married Patty and they had 31 wonderful years of marriage together. Don was a devoted husband and family man who everyone looked up to for positivity, love, kindness, patience, laughter and guidance. He was a pure and genuine man who lit up the room with just his smile.

His life work was custom cabinetry and home building. He took pride in every aspect of his work and life. He was a loyal friend and a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin who was greatly loved and will be truly missed. Don loved to spend time with his grandchildren and you could often find him working in his garage.

Don’s passion was spending time with his sons, his granddaughter and his racing buddies within the Virginia Championship Hare Scramble Series (VCHSS) of which he was a three time state champion in his class. He was also a champion in the Virginia Cross Country Series (VXCS). If he didn’t win first place, he’d be in second place aka “The Bridesmaid”.

He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Sr. Survivors include his mother, Gretchen, his loving wife Patty, sons Joshua, Jacob and Joseph (fiance Haley). He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Teresa) Wise of Hartford, Michigan, and sisters, Denise (Jeff) Sirk of Saint Joseph, Michigan and Ronda (John) Oakes of Midlothian, Virginia; his grandchildren Kaylee, Layla, Lucy, Christian and Colton; many loving nieces and nephews and friends and family across the country.

We will honor his legacy of wisdom and his motto “live, laugh, love”. He was definitely one of the good ones!

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Lacy Funeral Home at 6241 Cross County Road, Mineral, VA 23117. Visitation will be 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VCHSS Youth Riders www.vchss.org under the Don Wise Youth Memorial Fund which ensures the continuation of the sport he loved. Interment will be private.

Rest high on that mountain cousin. We haven’t seen in other in 25 years or talked since Uncle Don died in 2010 but that doesn’t mean I’m not sad about your passing. I am also very sad for the family who will miss you most! My condolences to Donnie’s wife Patty, Aunt Gretchen, Chuck, Denise, Ronda and Donnie’s children and grandchildren. Watch over them
