Jerralyn (Jerri) Nesbitt Sherrill
March 27, 1934 – April 4, 2025
Jerralyn (Jerri) Nesbitt Sherrill, age 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 4, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph H. and Daisy Nesbitt; husband, Bobby R. Sherrill; son, Michael R. Sherrill and grandson, Benjamin L. Griffith. She is survived by her two daughters, Terry Sherrill Griffith (Ron), and Sharon Elizabeth Sherrill; grandchildren Rhiannon C. Sherrill, Austin R. Sherrill (Jen), Joseph D. Griffith, and Tiffany Smith (Josh); 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and over 20 great and great-great nieces and nephews in Newport News, Norfolk and North Carolina.
Jerri spent her entire career in the accounting field, first as a bookkeeper at a company in Newport News and eventually working herself up to an officer in the company. After Bob completed college at VCU they moved to Hanover, Virginia, where Bob became Director of Camp Kiwanis. Jerri went to work at Richfood, Inc., where she worked full time and began and completed her accounting degree while at Richfood. Richfood promoted her to Manager of the Accounting Department and Jerri stayed there until her retirement.
Jerri and Bob joined Oakland Baptist Church in the early eighties and Jerri devoted her life to serving the Lord. She enjoyed teaching, the annual fish fry, singing in the choir, Fall Festival and most of all cooking with Bob every Wednesday night. Her proudest achievement at Oakland was becoming the second female deacon.
Jerri’s body has already been buried next to Bob’s so there will be no interment service. A Celebration of Life will be held at Oakland Baptist Church, Gum Spring, Virginia, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to a good old fashioned luncheon which will be held immediately after the service.

Jerri was such a beautiful lady. Her smiles made you feel warm all over. Knowing Jerri was an honor.
May peace be with you in the hands of your Lord and Savior, and Heavenly Father.
One of the sweetest ladies I know! Great memories of being out at the camp, craft shows, cookouts
She and Bob were gifted craftspeople and cooks! Bob catered my wedding– a delightful couple. I am so blessed
because their oldest is my best friend!!! I know Jerri will be enjoying her heavenly home. Condolences to this family.
