BACHMANLois Muriel Courson Bachman, 86, of Mineral, Virginia died Friday, January 29, 2010. She was born on December 16, 1923 in East Paterson, New Jersey and grew up in Fairlawn, New Jersey. Lois was the daughter of George G. Chapman and Minnie E. Klopher Chapman. In addition to her parents, her first husband, LaRue Bud” M. Courson and her second husband Forrest Wayne Bachman along with her brother Stuart G. Chapman and her sister Dorothy R. Chapman precede her in death. Her three sons Bruce A. Courson Miles C. Courson and Glenn M. Courson survive Lois. Additional surviving relatives include Sharon B. Courson daughter-in-law and Georgia D. Courson granddaughter Virginia S. Sheafer step-granddaughter and Rosa V. Sheafer step-great granddaughter. Surviving nephews of Lois include Douglas Chapman Keith Chapman and Paul Chapman.Lois was a graduate of St. Joseph Nursing School in 1949 passing the Board of Nursing and acquiring a Registered Nursing degree. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital and Hackensack Hospital in Surgical care and Pediatrics respectfully. Upon marrying LaRue “Bud” M. Courson in 1951 she relocated to Virginia and specialized in Operating Room nursing at Alexandria Hospital until 1978.Lois and “Bud” moved to Bucknell Virginia south of Alexandria and then to Stratford Landing Virginia where they raised their three sons. Lois loved the outdoors camping and boating with her family. She particularly loved gardening which she had learned from a neighbor at an early age. She was also a devoted tennis player at the Stratford Landing Pool and Tennis Club.Lois and “Bud” relocated to Spotsylvania Courthouse Virginia in 1979 where Lois practiced her love for gardening. She was a member of the Sunlight Garden Club of Fredericksburg. She acted as President of the Garden Club in 1981. Lois also was Treasurer of the Fredericksburg Woman’s Club for 6 years. “Bud” departed this life in January 1992 and Lois married Forrest Wayne Bachman in December 1993.Lois and Wayne moved to Mineral Virginia in 1993 and purchased a farmhouse and farm that would come to be known as Courbach Farm. They renovated the house and property into a working farm again. Lois continued her love of gardening in the Louisa County Gardening Club for many years. Wayne passed from this life in 2005. Lois was a vivacious person who often could be found riding her Wheelhorse tractor around the farm and overseeing daily life; be it watching her boys cut hay or just watching her cows graze in the fields. She was active on the farm even in the later years of her life.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday February 27 2010 at Gilboa Christian Church located at 6780 Jefferson Highway in Mineral Virginia 23117. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Christian Women’s Friends CWF of Gilboa Christian Church at the same address. Arrangements by Lacy Funeral Home Route 522 Mineral.
