Marshall Chavis, fondly known as “Chief”, was a proud Lumbee Indian. He was a Cowboys fan, and a NASCAR fan. He was a hunter, a fisherman, a truck driving, four-wheeling outdoor man. He was a gardner, had a green thumb for his potted plants and was visited seasonally by lots of hummingbirds that loved all the feeders he would put out for them. He was a veteran (paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division). He took pride and did a great job decorating the house for holidays. He drank a full pot of black coffee, read the paper cover to cover, and watched the six o’clock news every day. He was a retired Chrysler assembly line worker and a proud owner of many Dodge trucks over the years. He was a great dancer and also not afraid of being in the kitchen. He hated getting dressed up, especially when it meant wearing a suit. He liked the 3 Stooges and taking a chance on scratch off lotto tickets. He loved family camping (not glamping) trips. He raised his three girls to have good manners and to respect others. The list is long about how he lived and what he meant to those who knew him. Our hearts are heavy and he will be truly missed.
Service will be held on Feb 11, 2023 at CVAG, 5052 Cross County Rd, Mineral, VA 23117. The family will be receiving guests from noon to 2pm, service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks for a donation to Marshall’s favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
