Nancy Monson
Oct 21, 1952 – Mar 05, 2012
Nancy Elizabeth Graham Monson…..
…. of Bumpass, Virginia. Age 59. Beloved wife, daughter, mother, and friend. Died on March 5 after a short illness, but following a long and valiant struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Preceded in death by her mother Julia Graham, survived by her father Warren Graham, husband Mark Monson, daughter Andi Floyd and son-in-law Travis Floyd, and son CJ Monson. Nancy spent over 33 years resolutely, courageously, and fearlessly wrestling with MS, an insidious and devastating disease. It robbed her first of her art, then her mobility, and finally the ability to care for herself. Through it all she accepted her situation with a remarkable grace and composure. She never complained, always saying I’m fine!” when asked how she was doing. Not once did she attempt to take advantage of her handicap or use her condition to give her an undeserved benefit. Although the MS limited her physically it never limited her love for her family care about her friends or faith in her God. Nancy loved the Lord and was always thankful for her blessings insisting that there were others in greater need than her. She graciously accepted everyone she met as a long-lost friend with a quick smile and was a gentle inspiration to all who knew her. A humble kind and gentle soul she was deeply loved and will be missed. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday March 21 at Gum Spring UMC 35 Church Lane Gum Spring Virginia. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name with the National MS Society.
