Patricia Ann Pat Barnette
Jan 23, 1939 – Mar 23, 2010
Patricia Ann Pat Barnette went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 in Charlottesville, VA. She died of chronic COPD after a brief but acute episode.
Pat was born January 23, 1939 in Scotland Co., NC; but was raised in Florida by her parents, the late Earl Earnest Barnette and Elizabeth Victoria Humphries. She has one brother, Earl, and a niece, Staci, in Florida.
At the time of her death, she lived on her farm in Louisa, Co., VA with her four legged children, Pat made the world’s best biscuit, hosted great pig roasts and was the Florida Gator’s loudest fan.
Pat has many loving cousins on her Barnette side, whom she got to reconnect with at a family reunion last summer. On her Humphries side, Glen Earl Amundsen survives.
She is also survived by her BFF, Patt Keats and her family as well as many good and loyal friends from Canada to Florida, too many to name. This Little Redhead could not have accomplished all she did without the support of many critter sitters.
After college and training, Pat was a proud Registered Radiologic Technologist with specialization in mammography and a member of ARRT and VSRT.
Patty was a pioneer in the field of mammography working as a technologist for one of the first radiologist, Dr. Egan, who implemented many of the techniques still used today to detect early breast cancer. She was the first woman hired as a sales person for Kodak’s Health Imaging Division. Her presentation skills and humorous teaching were legendary. She traveled extensively and worked tirelessly for over 25 years leaving her mark on many mammographers. The industry still thinks of her as an original and remembers her fondly.
She enjoyed many years of genealogy research and loved musical theater, both included memorable road trips. She was active in her local Baptist church where she played piano/organ. Just last week, she was doing volunteer work at Hospice of the Piedmont and Goshen Baptist Association. She was an EMT running with Holly Grove Rescue.
May she breathe in peace.
A funeral service will be held at 3PM Sunday, March 28, 2010 at Oakland Baptist Church Gum Spring, VA. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 PM at the church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
