Ellen, Alice and family, The last times we saw you and Roger was at the funerals of Arthur and Mary. It was like being transported back to the 1940s and 50s. Your family was well-represented at the funerals of my parents. Roger was there for both. It was such fun growing up across Belleville Road from all of you Stephens and the other notable and friendly families in our neighborhood. I remember “Kick the Can” and softball in the street and riding the street car across town to the Roanoke Red Sox baseball games. Who can forget skating and basketball games in the Garland’s driveway next door? Mary was the best shooter of all. Incidentally, Bob Garland died March 3rd, just five days after Roger. Bob Edwards is the one who let me know of Roger’s death.
Please know that Noel and I send our sympathy and love to all of you in Roger’s family.
Jim and Noel
