Rev. Edgar J. Burkholder, of Montpelier passed away on Tuesday, May 20th at his residence. He attended Wake Forest and University of Richmond, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He pastored churches in Indiana and in Mecklenburg, Hanover, York, Loudoun, Caroline and Louisa Counties for seventy years.His passion in life was his family and his constant desire to reach people for Christ. He is preceded in death by his son K. Wayne Burkholder.He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Beverly Orr Burkholder, daughter, Jewel Cooke (Curtis), grandchildren, Kendall B. Gammon (Tasha), Jennifer Burkholder, Dyan Bonney (Gene), great-grandchildren, Daisy Gammon, Jack Gammon, Joseph Bonney, Jacob Bonney and his daughter-in-law Sandra Burkholder.The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice and caregivers, Judy Corker, Patricia Carter and Trixie Keaton along with many friends who shared concern for Rev and Bev during his illness.Funeral service will be held 11am on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hopeful Baptist Church, Montpelier, VA; family will receive friends one hour prior to service with interment in church cemetery.
To All Burkholder Family. Pastor Burkholder was so special to our Family. He helped our Daughter Angie get a Baptist scholarship and we Loved him so much as a Pastor and a wonderful Friend. Your Mom is so special to us. They are a wonderful Loving Couple that we all looked up to. So special to all our Family. He married our Daughter. Please know we are thinking of each of the Family and give our Love to Mrs. Burkholder and that WE Love her. We all have wonderful memories and fun times with them when he was our Pastor at South Anna Baptist Church and visited him some at Apple Grove Church. Our prayers are with each of you. Be Blessed. Rev. Burkholder was a model Christian, Pastor, Church Planter, husband, father and friend. His commitment to Christ was for a lifetime. Faithful, humble servant. So many lives impacted by his influence. Surely he has heard from The Father, well done thou good and faithful servant.” Praise the Lord for Rev. Burkholder”
On behalf of the church gathered at Antioch in Red Oak, we send our sincere sympathy for the loss of Reverend Burkholder. He served The Lord faithfully throughout his life. That was certainly true during his tenure at Antioch. He was a great man and a beloved Pastor! We join with all his family who grieve his death, with hope. He was a true inspiration and blessing to us. He is surely looking down on all of those whose lives he touched over his 99 years.
