Hilary Fontaine Sam Bowles II, 76, of Crozier, Virginia, died Saturday, August 23, 2008.. He is survived by his children: Darcie Bowles of Richmond; Charlotte Bowles and her husband Steve of New Kent; Christine Bowles of Washington D.C.; Hilary F. Huey Bowles III and his wife Cindy; grandsons: Cayman and Maxwell Bowles; and his loving companion of many years Judith H. Rice and her children: Holly, Sheri, and Tracy; also his extended family at Rare Old Times, the North Pole, and The Tiki.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond, Virginia.

Sorry for your lost.I have known Sam, as we called Him since I joined the Guard in 1970.He was always friendly and helpful to me and will be greatly missed. May God bless you in your time of grief.

Sam was the Field Maint. Branch Chief when I joined the Air Guard in 1976. My father, Harvey Mahoney, knew him long before that. We are both very sorry he is gone. He was a true friend and a good companion. We will truely miss him. He was definately one of the Good Guys”.”

Early years are especially memorable, and my KNIBB family lived ext door” from 1931 – 1942. Hillary and my brother Donald were close in age and the best of friends. We are sorry for your loss.”
I was so saddened to hear the passing of Mr. Bowles. He was such a nice man and will be dearly missed. I knew Mr. Bowles from the Crozier Post Office and he would bring his dog on occasion. We had mutual friends from the Richmond Country Club as well. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. God bless.
Sorry to hear that Sam had passed away. He was my first supervisor when I joined the Air Guard and he taught me a lot. He will be missed by many.
I will miss our chats about investments, golf and travel. Whenever I heard Mr. Bowles distinctive voice,I knew I could expect a pleasant conversation. He was a trustworthy gentleman.
Judy and family. I have known Sam for many years. We have had great times together. Judy, we were just talking last week about when I first met Carlie and we all were at Myrtle Beach at the resturant together and the waiter asked what my daughterCharlie would like to order. I also remember every evening I would walk into the Club 149 and there was Sam at the same corner of the bar waiting to give me advise. Beleive it, I did listen and it really helped me in life. He will never be forgotten.

Judy and family,I knew Sam from my first summer working in the Va Air Guard, back in 1976. I was a young single mom with a 9 month old son. Sam was always nice to my son and I. A few years later, Itchy the base mascot fathered some puppies we think he did. Bobby Mantlo talked me into getting one for my son, I did, he was a pretty yellow beagle mix, and Sam was at the Club that day and I named the dog after him. Sam was with us for 16 years. He was a good person and will be missed, but he is with all the other golfing” VaANG family and at peace.”
