BROOKING, James William, 54, of Sandy Hook, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 14, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Boothe Bland Francis Brooking; and he is survived by his daughters, Danielle Lynn Brooking of Sandy Hook and Kristine Brooking-Rachmel and her husband, Jay, of Waynesboro; and proud grandfather of Matthew Bland Reid Serrett; a loving companion, Candace McKinley of Midlothian and her son, Jason, of Atlanta, Ga; his devoted mother, Doris Parrish Brooking; two sisters, Evelyn Liz Brooking of Sandy Hook and Betty Nicholas and her husband, Glen, of Holly Grove; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; a devoted and special cousin, Lynn Brooking. James was a devoted father, son and brother. He was an active member of the Country Style Dancers of Virginia and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. His remains rest at the Lacy Funeral Home, Route 522, Mineral, where the family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday tonight. Graveside funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forest Grove Church Cemetery Fund.
I met James through the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Old Dominion Chapter annual banquet planning and set up.
