George Philip Purgason, Sr.
November 26, 1958 – February 12, 2024
George Philip Purgason, Sr., 65, passed away on February 12, 2024, in his home in the arms of his two daughters.
Born on November 26, 1958, in Richmond, Virginia, to Evelyn Page (Vaughan) and Herbert Newton Purgason, George was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Matthew Purgason.
George is fondly remembered and survived by his children, Jewel, Philip, and Sarah, along with his cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Havelah, and Titus. He also leaves behind six siblings and many nieces and nephews, along with those who regarded him as a father figure. George’s impact on their lives will be everlasting, as he touched the hearts of all who knew him.
George defied the expectations of a rare and invasive cancer diagnosis, surpassing all odds with resilience, living a decade beyond his prognosis. George was devoted to his family and community, known for his goofy sense of humour and unwavering commitment to utilizing his skills for the benefit of others. Though his profession as a service technician defined his career, he embodied the spirit of a true Renaissance man with skills and talents that extended beyond his trade including projects such as bee keeping and building his own home and estate. He loved working with his hands and problem solving. He found fulfillment spending time in nature and in the meaningful service he provided to others, leaving an indelible mark through his diverse skills and knowledge.
A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 5pm at Lacy Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to gather and share their memories of him. Reception to follow at Brent and Eve Purgason’s home.
May George’s soul rest in peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
