Gerald Wickham Bowles
November 6, 1943 – October 11, 2025
Gerald Wickham Bowles, 81, of Holly Grove, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 11, 2025. He died at home surrounded by his wife and children. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jackie; his children, Amy Wyant (Kerry), Susan Anderson (Leonhardt), and Kevin McLeod (Michelle); and grandchildren Sarah, Jesse, Lindsey (Kevin), Isabel (Hunter), Tucker, and Baylor. He is also survived by his brother, Mike (Carol); and sister, Joan. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Dorothy Bowles.
He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army. Gerald had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling, especially out west. His many trips to Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana were his favorite. An atlas was always by his chair so he could plan for his next trip. Favorite times always involved time with his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. After family, his favorite moments revolved around his church, being with friends, training and showing his Belgian draft horses, riding his mule Coley, spending time with his blue heelers at the farm, eating a bowl of ice cream-his favorite being the one he was eating right then, watching a good western, and reading his Bible.
The family will receive family and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at Hopeful Baptist Church, Montpelier, VA. A funeral service will follow on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hopeful Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Lloyd Family Cemetery, Holly Grove.
One of the best of the best. Will be missed. Sending love to the family. Hard to lose a great father.
I lived next door to Gerald for just over 40 years. A boy could never have asked for a better neighbor. My condolences to Jackie and all of the family. I’ll definitely miss you, Gerald.
Our heartfelt sympathy to Jackie, family, friends, and community. Sending up prayers of comfort and peace.
Just wanted to say that he was a good friend to me and my wife Susan he will be greatly missed
