James Dunn

James Blair Dunn Sr. passed away quietly at his childhood home in Holly Grove, VA on the 24th of January. He was born in Akron, Ohio on July 7, 1919 and was preceded in death by his parents Linwood I. Dunn and Marion J. Shelton, his wife Virginia Davis Dunn, his sister Emily Dunn Tiller, his brother Garland F. Dunn and his grandson James B. Dunn III. He survived by his precious care taker Wanda Dunn, his daughter Patricia D. and her husband Daniel Bienlien of Springfield, VA and their children, Timothy and James Patrick; his son, James B. Dunn Jr. of Holly Grove and his children Mica and Hailey; Beverly D. Borden of Tampa, FL and her children Benjamin and Michael; Delores D. Dunn of Holly Grove, VA; Lynwood F. Dunn of Montpelier, VA and his children Abigail, Isabelle, Forest and Fiona; eleven great-grandchildren and his beloved dog Bootsie.
Mr. Dunn was a WWII army veteran and served his country proudly as a tank mechanic and he continued his mechanical venues by establishing J B Dunn Motor Company in Montpelier, Va. He was a successful race car owner and driver for the early NASCAR circuit and a small aircraft owner and pilot for most of his adult life. James served as Commander for the West Hanover VFW and for thirteen years was Commander of the Hanover Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and upon retirement had achieved the rank of Lt. Col. One of his greatest achievements was building and establishing Holly Spring Airport in Holly Grove, VA where he spent the remainder of his life.
Visitation will be at by Lacy Funeral Home on Friday, January 27th from 6-8 pm and graveside services will be held at the Dunn family Cemetery in Holly Grove, VA on Saturday, January 28th at 11am.
James had diversified talents and his many accomplishments are a testament of his tenacious nature. His was kind, sweet and gentle person and is so loved by many.
