Marion Fay Mease Childrey of Bumpass, VA died Sunday, October 9, 2011. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Frayser Childrey and sister, Marguerite Floger .
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Childrey Kruep and her husband John and grandson Matthew Kruep.
She started taking dance at age three from Elinor Fry and started teaching for Elinor Fry at age sixteen. She performed in many venues locally and did commercials for television when it first came to Richmond. She was the Domino Cigarette Girl starting at age twelve. She opened her own studio; Marion Mease School of Dance” in 1950. She taught gave reviews and did choreography for local productions from 1950 through 1990. She officially retired in 1992 but continued to teach for several more years.
The family would like to thank Marion’s nurses and aids who cared for her in her last months.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday October 13 2011 at Signal Hill Memorial Park; Hanover County VA.

Dear Shannon, Mom called to share this news with me. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. Your Mom will continue to hold such a very special place in my heart. It only takes to see a little girl in pink tights and ballet shoes to send back a flood of wonderful memories of being in that studio with her. She touched so many lives.
Dear John, Shannon, & Matthew,My family and I are sorry to hear about your loss. Marion was a wonderful person and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. I was heartbroken to hear the news, and I want you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I remember the gentle spirit and helpful nature of Marion, and will always remember her as an exceptionally special and giving person. I particularly remember the time she announced she was going to be a grandmother. Marion was beaming ear to ear in excitement. It was a wonderful act of true love for her unborn grandson which I’ll never forget. There is a great void to be filled by Marion’s passing, but I know that the depth of love that you and your family share for each other and for Marion will pull you through. Honor her memory with that love and the wonderful memories you share of her. May God bless and comfort you and your family.

I am so sorry to learn of your loss. My daughter,Carolyn, and I were talking about her this week.We all, Mason, Cathy, Carolyn and I had beenin her reviews. My sister-in-law, Dottie Wilmoth,taught for Marion for many years and I still havea picture of Jack, Mason, Tom and Ray in theirtutus depicting the four swans! What fun.Marion was such a great talent and all herstudents learned much more from her thandance moves. She was a great influence on all who were privileged to have known her.My heartfelt sympathy.
Ms. Mease was such an inspiration to me and to the legions of children she taught. She taught more than dance, she taught self discipline and determination. A great lady is now dancing in the sky! My deepest condolences to the family.
Ms. Mease was my dance teacher from the time I was 3 until I graduated from college. She had a profound affect on the person I am today. She taught me three wonderful lessons. First, in order to succeed, you must start with good technique and practice often. You should always give everything you have to everything you do, and lastly, life is meant to be fun, so go dance! I will miss her, she was a wonderful lady.

Dear Shannon and family,I was so saddened to read of the passing of your lovely mother. She was a gentle spirit who was able to not only teach dance, but share her love and enthusiasm with her many students. I was always in awe of the way she could quiet a studio full of rambunctious young dancers with barely more than a whisper. My mother, Lillian Cockriel, and my children, Stephanie and Andrew Foard also took from Miss Mease” and we were in numerous reviews. One of my fondest memories was the year when both my children and I danced together in one of the family numbers. We all loved your mother dearly and learned so much from her.
