Norman Emmett Rose
January 20, 1948 – August 19, 2023
Norman Emmett Rose died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
Norman spent breaks from school working in machine shops, rewinding and rebuilding electric motors from an early age. During his time at Virginia Tech, he was most proud of holding the position of announcer and engineer for WUVT radio. He went on to join the U.S. Air Force, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. There he served as a technical instructor, providing training on repairing aircraft radar and weapons control systems, earning him instructor of the year. After his time in the USAF, he went on to accomplish a great many things, including working for more than 30 years as engineer, manager, and vice president of two different electric motor repair firms.
Norman was a pillar of the Holly Grove community. Over the years he served as President of both the Holly Grove Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squads, and held numerous positions at the Holly Grove Ruritan Club and Holly Grove Christian Church. After retirement, Norman founded Holly Grove Repair & Restoration, LLC, restoring lamps, chandeliers, and many other antique items for various clients. His special joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, and catching up with his many friends and classmates from John Marshall High School in Richmond.
Norman was preceded in death by his brothers, M. Carlisle Rose, Jr. and Marion W. Rose; and grandson Montgomery “Monty” A. Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Lloyd Rose; sons Stephen Rose (Janette) and Andrew Rose (Twila); four grandchildren; and brother Clint Rose (Anne).
A visitation will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23 at Holly Grove Christian Church 1637 Holly Grove Dr, Bumpass, VA 23024. A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Give Kids The World Foundation in his honor.
