
Jean Murphy Harris

Emma Jean Murphy Harris, born in Beaver Dam, Virginia on July 26, 1935, to Clarence Campbell and Alice Hall Murphy, died July 30, 2025, at the home of her son on Sherway Farm in Holly Grove, Virginia. Jean worked for C&P Telephone in Richmond before becoming a full-time mother and dairyman’s wife.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wayland Vaughan Harris; sisters, Josephine M. Goodman and Alice M. Postans; and brother, Clarence Warren (Boodie) Murphy. She is survived by her son, Wayland Vaughan (Bubba) Harris, Jr.; her daughter, Sherry H. Lacy and her husband, Ray; granddaughter, Caroline L. Reddy and her husband, Sean; great-granddaughter and namesake, Cecelia Jean Reddy; sister, Dale M. Taylor; brother, Charles William (Billy) Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
The family will receive friends at Lacy Funeral Home, Mineral, from 2 until 4 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Hopeful Baptist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Holly Grove Volunteer Rescue Squad, Bumpass, VA.
